New OverKill bike chopper in Australia

“Hey guys, I’m back in the man cave building another chopper – Overkill this time. Spent the last three days out there building the frame. Ok, here we go.

Scored two wheels and tyres off a friend for free (perfect for Overkill).” Read more about this project here.

Build your own OverKill bike chopper

OverKill is appropriately named because everything about it is way over the top. With its ridiculously wide rear wheel, and ultra long forks, what else could it be called other than OverKill chopper?

Does a chopper really need a dragster tire on its rear end, or such a high frame? Not really, but does a roadster really need a Hemi? You know where I’m going with this. Actually, the main reason I built OverKill to such outlandish proportions was to retaliate against the mass marketing of big box store choppers.

Even though this sick chop has proportions that rival some of the petrol-burning street customs, it certainly won’t bust your wallet or require you to spend the next year in a machine shop. The fact is, OverKill is built from nothing more than an old car rim, some scrap bicycle parts, and a few lengths of electrical conduit using only a welder and grinder.

Yes, anyone can pull this one off using the tricks shown in the plan. Every step of the build is detailed using high resolution photos, and you will be amazed at how simple it is to add bicycle spokes to the car wheel, and there is plenty of room for you to add your own evil modifications to the frame. How does it ride? Dude, look at this beast, it was made for cruising!

As you can see, OverKill bike chopper not only rides well, but it dominates the road with its radical proportions and kicks dirt in the face of conformity. Choppers belong to us garage hackers, so let’s take back what is rightfully ours and send a message to those who think mass production is the way to go. Get building!

Custom handcycle trike from Hungary – AtomicZombie gallery

“Hello! This year’s project was the making of a hand bike planned by me similar to the Viking tandem.

I am glad that more people are building recumbent bikes for themselves, and that we may share it with the others in the world with the help of this site (AtomicZombie.com).

Together we can make miracles happen.

With greetings, Gábor Pihokker from Hungary”

Kind of Vigilante bike chopper in Germany: AtomicZombie forum

“Hi zombies 😉

“My first custom bike will be a kind of like the Vigilante chopper. It will have only one square tube from the rear wheel to the steering head and one from the saddle to the bottom bracket. Each one will be 40x40x3 mm.”

Read more and join the discussion:  Kind of Vigilante in Germany

The Vigilante Chopper breaks all the rules and takes the law into its own hands! With its fat rear wheel and stealth bomber styling, the Vigilante is one ride that will stand out among all other choppers as a true custom. Even the frame is radically different, using only square tubing for that stealth bomber look. This project is built from the ground up, using the parts you have on hand, so there is plenty of room to alter the design and carve out a ride that suits your building style.

Take a look at our Builder’s Gallery to see other Vigilante Chopper examples, including many creative modifications to the plan. Our international builders community ranges from students to retired engineers, but they all have one thing in common – the desire to build their own stuff!

Building a chopper that oozes with attitude is a lot of work, but it’s not rocket science! I only own a basic AC welder, an angle grinder, and a hand drill, so anyone can pull off the same kind of work with a little hard work. Because of the way the frame is built around the wheels, you have alot of room to experiment with your own designs to add your own twisted ideas into the bike with ease. This plan is a great way to learn the art of chopper building, even if you have something completely different planned since the ideas presented here can be used over and over again.

It’s time to reclaim the word “chopper” and put it back into the hands of the builder where it belongs. A department store chopper with serial numbers is not a custom at all, and it is not worthy of the word “chopper”, in my opinion! No assembly line chop will ever have a chance against something carved from your own blood, sweat and tears, so grab that hacksaw and get chopping!

NEW – AZTV bike builders tutorial – 3-Piece Bottom Bracket Bearings

3-Piece Bottom Bracket Bearings

This basic tutorial will demonstrate the workings of a typical 3 piece bottom bracket, showing the removal and installation of the various components that make up the bearing system.
Although there are slight size differences between different manufacturers, the basic principles of operation and assembly are virtually the same. In this tutorial, the bottom bracket shell has been cut from the frame for later use in a custom bicycle project.
The crank axle is a hardened steel rod that includes a pair of machined bearing races, tapered square ends, and either a bolt or internally threaded section at each end to affix the crank arms.
There is some debate between “axle” and “spindle” as being the correct name, but most seem to use axle now, so I will as well. Why make things more complicated, right?

Hammerhead style quad bike – AtomicZombie builders gallery

“Kat & Brad. Here is a picture of my wife’s bike I built for her. It was originally a Hammerhead trike, but I added the rear trike kit to make it a 4 wheeled bike. Thank you guys for such a terrific site and forum for us to learn and display our creations. Thanks again.
